What is a Witan?

Witan is Old English for “the wise.” It was an historic council convened to advise Anglo-Saxon kings on matters of consequence — and, when the moment demanded, to elect them. The last Witan in Oxford, held 961 years ago, set in motion the events of 1066.

Our contemporary Witan is a one-day forum for the UK strategy community to reflect together on the pressing questions facing our field. It is not a venue for presenting one’s latest paper. It is a discussion.
